An Example of Thesis Background

UNIT I

1.1 Background of Research

Language is something that should exist in human life, because language is one of the most important tools for communicating and interacting in social life. In terms of linguistics structural, language is a symbol of arbitrary sounds which is used by society to relate and interact each other. Therefore, language is a system, then the language has rules that are interdependent and contains elements that are analyzed separately. People speak producing sequential sounds, that form a particular structure. The sounds are a symbol that represents the hidden meaning.
To facilitate interpretation in the hidden meaning, then language in realization is always in the context. The context is meant in this case is socio-cultural context. As a tool of communication, language evidently consists of two aspects. The first is the linguistic aspect, which is the form of element that directly shape the structure, called sounds, words, sentences, or texts and teachings. The second aspect is non-linguistic or paralinguistic aspects. These aspects include: a person's speech patterns, supra-segmental elements, distance and body gestures.
As I have noted above, aspects of linguistic and paralinguistic function as a communication tool, together with the context establishing a particular situation in the communication process, whether formal or informal. Furthermore, in a particular context we often find that people switching language in sudden when speaking. Changing the language is defined as the act of diverting or mixing a language with other languages. It happens because two or more languages are coexist, inseparable and affect each other. Language’s influence emerges from the contact between human languages
The contact itself between languages often leads to the use of elements of other languages when using a particular language in a conversation deliberately, called Code Mixing. Code Mixing occurs if speaker slips another language while using a certain language in conversation. Elements which are derived from other languages can be like words, phrases, group of words, word repetition, or idiomatic phrase or clause. They are prone elements which are easily affected by Code Mixing, especially in bicultural or multi-cultural society.
In a whole brief, the writer would like to reveal the phenomenon of Code Mixing in society, particularly in the border area such as East Bogor. This option as an object of research is according to the reality in life that writer encounters, likewise most people who are native or not usually speak using Code Mixing generally.

These are three women’s health problems which shouldn’t be kept secret. The most complained problem is menstruation period. There are more than ten million women in the world suffer and have cramps when they are in this period. Some women usually just share this to nearest friends or other women relatives. The second one is acne. It appears in adolescence or even adulthood. Those who have this problem usually solve it simply, by only using an acne medication. Thirty percents of women are shy or even lazy to consult this to dermatologist. The last problem is bladder leakage. This problem actually is general but for those who have this will keep it secret. About thirteen million women in the United States have this problem, which appears after giving birth.

Opening Paragraph By Asking Question (Explanatory)

I Bet You Know This Case

Are you still in High School? Do you have some friends who often copy one's homework? Or are you including to them? We  know that some students who haven't get their homework done sometimes need 'shortcuts' to finish it. They usually don't understand about the subject they are studying at school and also worry about the teacher  who would get angry to them. This reasons take them to this illegal way of finishing homework. On the other hand, students who often do this usually don't know about the pattern of a subject because they just copy it, not make it by themselves. They will continue this, unless they build their own awareness of making homework.
